In Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood, the stretch of Damen Avenue between North & Webster has some of the city’s best boutique shopping. Stitch, at 1723 N Damen Avenue, always has handsome and well-picked accessories and decor.
Stitch & Veto:
When I first visited Stitch, I was looking for a wedding band to replace the ones I had (my mother-in-law gave us her original set). Among their jewelry offerings are a number of stainless steel rings from Veto Jewelry. Veto’s designs really appealed to my minimalist tastes, and while I thought I’d prefer one of their simple flat bands, a little tension-set diamond style ate away at my conviction. It took a few years before I finally decided to get it. After what felt like a lengthy 3-week processing time & a little bit of shipping time from Chicago, it finally arrived today:
The Stitch logo:
By the way, I like Stitch’s logo quite a bit. It’s iconic, the needle’s pointy angles give it a dynamic quality within its stable square…it looks like it’s going places while also looking very still. I swear the type looks a tiny bit stretched, which really bugs my logo-design-eye, but I could also just be seeing things. And their gift-wrapping touches were over-the-top (the little stamped suede label with the running-stitch motif, blue ribbon, and brown paper box). I feel a bit guilty about indulging in this degree of packaging, but it was a great gift presentation.
